Making History: Mural Marks Future Home of Napa Valley Education Center and Tasting Room

When we founded Mira, we committed to making exceptional wine and to innovation that would challenge the industry and enhance our ability to connect with consumers. Today, we took a huge step in fulfilling that commitment with the unveiling of a distinctively Charleston landmark, an 18 by 29 foot mural marking the location of a future destination for wine lovers – Mira Winery’s Napa Valley Education Center and Tasting Room.

The Napa Valley Education Center, the first of its kind, will bring the world-renowned Napa Valley, California experience to Charleston. When it opens this fall, the Education Center will take visitors through the winemaking process, from bud to bottle, and provide a better understanding of the geo-environment of one of the premier grape growing regions in the world – the Napa Valley.

At the mural’s ribbon cutting, Mira President and Co-founder said, “The mural, which some have referred to as Charleston’s version of Mt. Rushmore, celebrates the relationship between food and wine and recognizes some of the people who helped establish Charleston’s culinary scene, but it is dedicated to all those who make Charleston a culinary destination. Charleston and Napa Valley are a perfect pairing.”

Acclaimed artist David Boatwright just completed the mural named “Renoir Redux: Exceptional Pairings.” It is a Charlestonized version of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” which pairs the historic painting with the likenesses of 14 members of the Charleston food scene (over the last two weeks, we’ve been profiling the faces in the mural).

In the coming weeks and months we will provide updates on the progress of the Napa Valley Education Center. Click here to see photos of the mural’s ribbon cutting. Want to see the mural painted from start to finish? Below is a time-lapse video of Boatwright at work.
