"Best Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year"-- Two Years in a Row!
Mira has had a Cabernet Sauvignon names "Best Cabernet Sauvignon" of the year for both 2024 and 2025!
Every year, the Beverage Testing Institute (BevTest) evaluates hundreds of wines from around the world through a rigorous, blind-tasting process. From that field, a short list emerges: the Best Wines of the Year, expressions that stand above their category for precision, balance, and a clear sense of place. The 2025 red wine winners illustrate how broad that definition can be. From cool-climate Cabernet Franc in the Finger Lakes and maritime Cabernet Sauvignon on Long Island’s North Fork to Napa Valley Cabernet, Michigan Pinot Noir, and an Austrian grape thriving unexpectedly in upstate New York, these wines are less about simple varietal correctness than about terroir expressed in the glass.
We are humbled that the 2025 winner for "Best Cabernet Sauvignon" was awarded to:
Mira Winery 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Yountville, Napa Valley
97/100 Points, Best Cabernet Sauvignon
Yountville sits within Napa Valley's mid-valley region, characterized by moderate rainfall of up to 35 inches annually, elevations from 130 to 1,000 feet, and highly varied soils.
The wine opens with blackberry jam, dark plum, and cassis, followed by cigar tobacco, graphite, and pencil shavings. Additional notes of cedar, sage, bay leaf, leather, dark chocolate, subtle oak spices, and a whisper of eucalyptus add complexity.
It's full-bodied and velvety on the palate, showcasing concentrated dark-fruit flavors of blackberry, black plum, and cassis, interwoven with savory tobacco, dried sage, dark chocolate, and graphite minerality. The mid-palate reveals notes of mocha, baking spices, and subtle eucalyptus. The gravelly loam imparts an elegant, food-friendly salinity and mineral tension. Tannins are ripe, with a structured backbone and well-integrated. The vintage shines with excellent fruit concentration and balance.
The finish is long and layered, with lingering notes of dark fruit and mineral salinity.
