Did you know November 7th is international Merlot Day? Don’t let the “Sideways effect” fool you. You know, the movie where that crabby character Miles only drank Pinot Noir and didn’t want to drink any *bleeping* merlot? It may have actually been the best thing that ever happened to this blending grape from Bordeaux. So much merlot was planted without the care of place or concern of quality and it was becoming ubiquitous. Since then, much of it has been pulled out and only pristine plantings remain producing some of the best merlot in Napa Valley.
