Seafood: It’s Not Just For White Wine
Warm weather is on its way, which means more time outside on the boat & more fresh seafood! It has long been said that white wine goes best with fish, however this does not have to be the case. Depending on the type of fish or seafood you serve, you may be able to serve either red or white wine.
The only rule about pairing food with wine is that the wine should never overwhelm the food. For example, if you just love a big, bold red wine, such as Mira 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, a fish paired with bold sauces and rich sides will work best. The simpler your seafood dish, the more minerality and fresh acidity your wine needs, along with a somewhat richer body. For example, a full-bodied Chardonnay, such as Mira 2011, would work well with grilled shrimp or scallops.
If you are still unsure, fresh, light white wines will pair well with almost any kind of grilled seafood, such as Mira 2010 Sauvignon Blanc.
We would recommend our 2010 Pinot Noir, rated with 94 points and selected as “Editors’ Choice” by Wine Enthusiast, with a heart healthy piece of salmon. The delicate texture of the Pinot will compliment well with the fatty richness of the fish.
This boating season, don’t be afraid to try new wines with different seafood’s. Above all enjoy your meal and your wine with good company and good times.
