Winemaker Wisdom: Winemaking Update
I spent the day driving around wine country yesterday and wanted to share a glimpse of how the season is shaping up. The season so far is superb. We’ve had nothing but nice weather and very little rainfall. The vines seem to be about a week and a half ahead of normal. That means harvest for Sauvignon Blanc in early/mid August and around labor day for Pinot Noir. Quantity looks to be normal to maybe just a little more than normal. Of course we wont know for sure until the grapes start plumping up. Last year it appeared there was less clusters on the vines but the crop actually weighed more and so 2012 turned out being abundant; nature’s way of keeping us on our toes.
