Winemaker Wisdom: Harvest Complete, Watch A Final Truckload
Nice weather prevailed again all of last week affording us some very nice hang time. This meant just checking in on the vineyards to follow up on taste, as well as observe the health and grapes ability to continue hanging. The vineyards have definitely turned the corner into Fall mode, especially since I’ve asked our growers to pull the plug on irrigation. Leaves are yellowing and the vines are beginning to say “I’m done.” Consequently, the remaining vineyards will be harvested this week.
Last week we completed harvesting Garvey Vineyard and also went back into Hyde Vineyard. We harvested our Merlot yesterday as well as the old Cabernet Franc block.
In the cellar, Schweizer Vineyard Block 4 continues to ferment while Block 6 begins its fermentation. The Garvey tanks also begin their fermentation. Meanwhile Petit Verdot continues to finish it’s alcoholic fermentation in tank.
As of this week we have now finished our harvest. Sad to see harvest come to a close, but eager to reap the benefits! Take a look below at a final truckload!
