Mira Winery made history as the first American winery to experiment with ocean aging wine when we retrieved four cases of wine out of the Charleston, S.C. Harbor on May 21. The wine had been stored under the sea for a period of three months.
“With several factors that impact wine production, aging is traditionally done in a very controlled environment to ensure optimum outcome. With our experiment, we’re testing the impact of unpredictable tides, waves and temperature on the wine’s taste.” – Mira Winemaker Gustavo Gonzalez
The wine was taste tested on May 22 with “extraordinary” results notes Fox News. For the full report by Fox News reporter Mary Quinn O’Connor on the experiment and its results please click here.
