Mira Harvest has Quality & Quantity
The North Coast’s winegrape harvest is thriving this season with ideal temperatures that have allowed the crops to soak in the delightful weather. It is sure to be a great year for wine with this year’s winegrape season having possibly the greatest tonnage since 2005.
Jeff Quackenbush, of the North Bay Business Journal, notes
“In Napa County, the expectation for 2012 tonnage was 30 percent above growers’ multiyear averages until grapes for sparkling wine started coming off vines a month and a half ago, and now the typical outlook is between a grower’s average and plus 10 percent, according to Jennifer Putnam, executive director of trade group Napa Valley Grapegrowers.”
What’s even better is the grapes have great quality along with quantity that will be brilliant for making wine. According to Quachenbush in a county crop report, 2005 had 181,000 tons of winegrapes as apposed to 153,000 in the next harvest year in 2006. There will be plenty Napa Valley produced wine to go around after this year’s harvest. Be prepared for the flavorful wines that are in the making for next few years.
