Meet the Winemaker

Mira is proud to have Gustavo Gonzalez as our winemaker. With over fifteen years of fine wine production experience, Gustavo brings a unique integration of all facets of winemaking to Mira Winery. After completing a very broad university education, Gustavo began his professional winemaking career as a laboratory technician at Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa. Demonstrating both an expedient assimilation of the winemaking process as well as creativity and innovation, Gustavo’s zeal for winemaking was recognized early in his pursuit. The result was ever increasing winemaking responsibilities, assignments abroad and an uncanny intuition that makes Gustavo the expert winemaker he is today.

An accomplished winemaker responsible for some of the most famous wines in Napa Valley, Gustavo has gained a well-earned reputation around the world: his wines consistently receive high marks. In fact, one of Gustavo’s wines was described as “perhaps the greatest Tuscan red ever” and was awarded a perfect 100 point rating.

Gustavo’s approach to winemaking is an insistence that the best wines come from the best grapes. His philosophy is that the winemakers role is to simply divine each grape variety’s qualities as expressed through the uniqueness of site and vintage, guiding first the grapes then the wines through their seasons, as naturally as possible, with minimal intervention, to the bottle. It is the combination of old world tradition with new world innovation that makes the success of this technique possible and it is these principles that ensure Mira Wines to be an intellectual, artistic and joyful manifestation of nature at its best.
