Mira Mural Countdown: Frank Lee
Day 6: Mira Winery is proud to feature Frank Lee on our mural "Renoir Redux: Exceptional Pairings."
In the 14 days leading up to the July 1st unveiling of “Renoir Redux: Exceptional Pairings” – a building sized mural on Queen Street in Charleston, South Carolina - and the the groundbreaking of the Napa Valley Education Center and Tasting Room, Mira is profiling each of the 14 faces who have impacted the Charleston food scene that are portrayed in the mural.
For Frank Lee, it all started when he and his high school friends with just $5,000 opened a hippie vegetarian restaurant and natural foods co-op called, 221 Pickens Street, in Columbia, SC. Frank has been a leader in the sustainable food initiative even before it was cool to do so, and to this day continues to support local farmers. Forty years later, he can be found as the Executive Chef at The Maverick Southern Kitchen’s Slightly North of Broad restaurant in Charleston, SC. Frank has been recognized in many major national publications such as the Food Arts, Food & Wine, The New York Times, Southern Living, and The Washington Post. His famous Maverick Grits earned him GQ Magazine’s a Golden Dish award. Frank has also appeared on “ABC’s Good Morning America” and was featured on the “Great Chefs of the South” television series.
