Mira Winery Named “New Kid On The Block”
Mira was honored to participate in Premiere Napa Valley the week of February 17-23, 2014. Premiere brings together hundreds of top wine trade and media from around the globe for what many in the industry refer to as “the best week of the year for wine professionals.” Hosted by the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), a non profit trade association that has been cultivating excellence for 70 years by inspiring its 500 members to produce consistent quality wines, provide environmental leadership and care for the extraordinary place they call home, this week is certainly something all in the industry look forward to.
The Barrel Tasting and Live Auction serves as the grand finale of Premiere Week. During this event top winemakers offer a wine created exclusively for the barrel tasting and auction event and are not otherwise available for purchase. Each lot is tasted by attendees/potential bidders throughout the day and then ultimately sold to only one bidder with proceeds going to support the NVV’s mission to promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation, its wines, vintners and community.
L. Pierce Carson of The Napa Valley Register attended the auction this year and was impressed with what he tasted. Carson notes 12 wineries he calls “New kids on the block.” We are humbled to be on this list! Check out Carson’s complete list here.
Mira Winery — Using fruit from 17-year-old vines harvested on the Schweizer Vineyard in Stags Leap District, Gustavo Gonzalez was pouring another WOW wine he calls Stags Leap Dream. It is a dreamy blend, displaying expected silky Stags Leap Dream tannins, prompting a velvety mouthfeel from this big red. There’s lots of black fruit and spice. Stags Leap Dream pioneer Nathan Fay would have approved. A partnership with Jim “Bear” Dyke Jr. that had its first release from the 2009 harvest, this is a brand to watch.
