Thankful for Wine on Thanksgiving
It’s that time of year again, when we start preparing ourselves both physically and mentally for the most highly anticipated meal of the year, Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, Thanksgiving is the time of year that miraculously transforms every member of the family from microwave dinner pro into a master chef, each slaving for hours over their dish as if it were going to be tasted and judged by Wolfgang Puck or Gordon Ramsay. But don’t let the food steal the show, this Thanksgiving, why not change it up a bit, let the rest of your family compete for top chef, and you be head sommelier!
Having the right wine with your Thanksgiving dinner, and enough of it, should be just as important as making sure the turkey isn’t dry or undercooked. It will make a difference on your pallet and most importantly, in your dinner atmosphere. I know its cold outside, but don’t be afraid to start your meal off with a chilled bottle of white wine. A big buttery American style Chardonnay will warm up your guests and the richness and texture will hold its own with the diverse flavors of the meal. From there, try moving to a Pinot Noir, it’s a lighter red wine that pairs nicely with your Thanksgiving turkey. This year let the sommelier steal the show!
