Time to be Rhone Away!
Only 22 traditional grape varieties can be grown in the French Rhone Valley, with only 12 of those making their way to the United States. On June 4th, one of those – the 877 clone from Hyde Vineyard which we use to make our Mira 2010 Syrah – will be featured at the Rhone Rangers Grand Tasting in Washington, D.C.
Hyde Vineyard is located in the Carneros district of Napa Valley with 150 net vine acres planted to eight varieties on seven different rootstocks sustainably and organically farmed with respect for the environment. A family venture managed by Larry Hyde since its inception in 1979 has become one of the best vineyards in California. Hyde Vineyards is the source for Mira 2009 Syrah, 2009 Red Wine, 2009 Cabernet Franc.
The Rhone Rangers, America’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to promoting American Rhone varietal wines, is hosting an intimate tasting at The Long View Gallery with 80 wines from top California winery members, including Napa Valley’s Mira Winery. This is a rare opportunity to sample some of the nation’s most luxurious wines. We’d love for our friends in D.C. to join us and stop by to say hello to Mira President Bear Dyke and Winemaker Gustavo Gonzalez.
Wine Enthusiast gave our 2009 Syrah a 92-point rating, saying,
“The wine is wonderful. Made from 100 percent Syrah, it’s high in alcohol, offering rich, dense waves of blackberry and blueberry jam, chocolate, peppercorn and vanilla.”
According to the Rhone Rangers, “American Rhone-style wines are made from the same grapes that have flourished for centuries in France’s Rhone River Valley, and their growing popularity in the United States speaks to their versatility with food, wide range of rich flavors, and to the skills of American winemakers.”
D.C. is home to a number of wine club members and restaurant partners, including Bobby Van’s, The Capital Grille and The Palm, so we’re thrilled to be participating in this outstanding event.
